Real estate agents usually get up in arms about For Sale by Owner (FSBO) home sellers. Almost everything related to FSBOs is debatable. What percentage of home sellers end up using an agent? Is the percentage of FSBO sales going up or down? Who gets a higher sales price for a home – an agent or a FSBO home seller? A lot of real estate agents scoff at the idea that a FSBO seller can do their job well and sell their home at a decent price.
That’s why I applaud this article on Inman news that highlights the recent success of a FSBO home seller. There will be lots of comments on this article for sure since Inman News subscribers are primarily real estate agents, and talking about FSBO sales is like blood in the water.
The thing I like best about the article is the comment made today byJohn Rowles. Very prescient.

If FSBO is 20% of the market now, what will it be when the original latch-key kids, Gens X and Y, become not just the majority of buyers but the majority of sellers as well over the next 10 years?
A lot of us grew up in households with two working parents or one parent, and we are used to doing things for ourselves and finding information and buying things on the Internet is second nature to us.
And if you really want to piss us off, tell us how we need you and how unqualified we are to do your job.
Using an agent is going to be considered a convenience, even a luxury in a seller’s market and foolhardy in a buyer’s market. If nothing else can bring radical change to the entrenched real estate model, demographics eventually will.”
